roughly one year after Ervin Santana couldn't find anything better than a one year deal with the Braves The Twins give him 4 years/55 mil.
albeit, last year was a solid year for big Erv, but Erv turned it in to a major cash in. Seems as though the Twins are a bit out of touch recently in the free agent market (aside from the Phil Hughes signing).

Seems as though the Twins are a bit out of touch recently in the free agent market (aside from the Phil Hughes signing). He also found his market severely depressed after declining a qualifying offer, as no teams were willing to part with a pick and give him a big deal. Atlanta wasn't able to extend the qualifying offer since he signed after the start of the season, so he had no pick compensation this year, hence the multiyear deal. Essentially, he had to take the one-year deal last year to enter the market in much more favorable conditions this offseason.

Thank god for the Twins. That would have been such a Giants move to make.

The money is a bit high, but that's what pitchers are getting in Free Agency. Flat out bad pitchers get $7-8 million per year even, it seems.

It's a year too long but this is what happens when you sign FA's. Mccarthy just got a similar contract and he has never been healthy. I have no problems with this as a Twins fan. It might not work out but the Twins have a crapload of money they could spend but no obvious targets since so much of their team is pre arb.

Brett Anderson, who threw 175 IP as a rookie, and since has never thrown more than 113 innings in a season, just got 1 year, $10 million. Significantly less risk than 4/$55 million, but still, Brett Anderson is making $10 million in 2015.

Bad deal from the Twins. Same for McCarthy with my Dodgers.

Wait everyone... Hold the phone... I just heard something.
Apperently, Ervin Santana's real name is Johan Santana. but, when he came into the league There was already a Johan Santana who happened to be pretty good. So so he just decided to change his name. So, "why Ervin?", you ask.. "Well, I was a really big fan of Magic Johnson, and I just thought Ervin Santana sounded cool."
Still gonna turn out to be a shit deal for the twins, but at the very least he's cooler now. To me, anyways.

Since this seems to be the place for this type of thing; "Royals, Volquez do two-year, $20 million deal"

Since this seems to be the place for this type of thing; "Royals, Volquez do two-year, $20 million deal" With all of these so-so pitchers making $10 million a year I bet that wherever he is, Roy Oswalt is thinking of making yet another comeback with dollar signs in his eyes. I imagine he could get $5 million just for seeing what he can do for a month. Seems like easy money.
