Of the top starting pitchers available (supposedly), how many of the following do you think the Red Sox will be able to get for their starting staff for 2015? Jon Lester Max Scherzer Cole Hamels James Shields I'm gluttonously hoping for 3+. Yes, that would make the Sox the true new Yankees of old, I know.

I'd think 1. 2 would be in the realm of possibility, but unlikely.

I think that Latos makes a lot of sense for them in a Cespedes deal.

My dark horse moves are signing both Lester and Scherzer.
It may be possible to get one of Seattle's coveted arms for Cespedes since Seattle seems to be going all in this year.

Moe Lester's signing was the most obvious of the off-season. Could have happened on the first day

Yeah, the Lester move seemed pre-ordained. Now throughout the offseason sports radio will be talking about how boneheaded the management was after winning a championship and carelessly ignoring an arm who helped get them there. Idiots.

The Cubs maneuvering has been brilliant since they got Theo. I don't know if Theo is the reason but every move has been working out brilliantly. Trading the Shark and parts for Russell and parts. Signing Lester to replace the Shark. Spinning off barely decent players for upside guys like Arrieta. Nailing draft picks like Baez (before Theo?), Bryant and Schwarber. Signing Soler is looking brilliant.
I really like their strategy of building a farm system of hitters and spending money or trading for veteran pitchers.
the Red Sox are looking okay but a few bad breaks (offseason moves or injuries) and things could head downhill quickly in the competitive East.

Yeah, the Lester move seemed pre-ordained. Red Sox fans didn't seem to think so at 10:00 p.m. EST last night. Seemed to think that when the Giants were announced out of the running, that he was on his way back to Fenway. Wouldn't have been that surprising. If it weren't Theo in Chicago, that's probably what you would've seen. Wouldn't surprise me if the Sox give Scherzer $200 million and trade for Cole Hamels all before lunch today.

The Sox management seem to be flailing about a bit, so I agree, I wouldn't doubt it either. As for the pre-ordained aspect, I suppose then that was my opinion at the time given how it is rare to let something go and then be able to get it back in the baseball business. The sports radio show that I listened to yesterday was thinking Cubs all the way.

Ah no - looks like Bos is giving up the prospects. seems odd. Two guys that aren't high profile, at least. It seems that Detroit needed more convincing to take on Cespedes ... Now the Sox just got Justin Masterson. Here's the 2015 Red Sox starting rotation!! Porcello/Miley/Masterson/Buchholz/Kelly
