4-years, $45 million for Nick Markakis is essentially the Braves setting their money on fire. This was a move I'd expect the Mets to make. Glad they dodged that bullet.

This contract really that bad compared to what has been getting doled out in FA so far.
The silly part is that they are back to having too many OF'ers again unless another trade is in the works.

Holy cow the Braves truly have no idea!
Trade away a fab player like Heyward who can do everything and is right at the beginning of his peak, to give Captain Vanilla 4 years.
You can deal with Markakis' power totally going away if his OBP is high, but the last two years have been .329 and .342. You can also deal with it if he's elite or near-elite on defence... NOPE before 2014 he had 5 consecutive years of negative UZR/150.

There was just a rumor a couple days ago that the Giants were interested. Thank you Barves.

Markakis' agent must be speaking with a golden tongue while promoting certain mediocrity over uncertain mediocrity.

As a braves fan this sucks. If they are going to rebuild they sure don't need this contract.

As a braves fan this sucks. If they are going to rebuild they sure don't need this contract. Well they need someone to play RF, especially if they still plan on moving either Upton or Gattis. I just think that someone like Aoki would have made better sense. Shorter deal and would fill a leadoff spot a little better.
