This is quite risky IMO. The Mariners are buying his 34-35-36-37 seasons basically to improve in 2015.
Cruz has been very consistent with his .ISO (7 seasons of .200+ in a row), but he's never had a full season of .50 BB/K and his last 4 seasons of OBP are .333, .327, .319, .312. It doesn't take a very serious injury to sap someone'e power output, and if this happens to Cruz you've basically got "replacement man"....for $15mil.
I'd much rather have Butler for half the price and hope he flukes a good power season or two.

Butler's deal was fair despite his limitations. I'm not sure if I have mentioned it on here but Cruz's deal is another example of teams having money to spend but basically nowhere to spend it. Most of the deals so far this offseason are overpriced and definitely too long for older players.
