12-Team H2H, Daily 5x5 (+OBP & QS)
This is the final year of a 3-year keeper and, after coming one H2H point from taking the championship in 2014 I'm ready to make a solid push.
Here's who I'm currently set on keeping:
-Mike Trout (Round 1) -Freddie Freeman (Round 7) -George Springer (Round 15) -Corey Kluber (Round 16) -Manny Machado (Round 17) -Mookie Betts (Round 18) -Jake Arrieta (Round 19) -Jacob DeGrom (Round 20) -Garrett Richards (Round 21) -Yan Gomes (Round 22)
If I commit to the above I will have C, 1B, 2B, 3B, OF, OF // SP, SP, SP, SP filled, and I'll still be drafting in rounds 2-6 and 8-14. Not a bad start to a team, I think.
I'm not sure I would normally keep 4 SPs, but since I'm getting them all so cheap there's something really appealing about being able to fill out/upgrade my lineup early.
Here are four other keeper options:
-Ian Kinsler (Round 4) -Chris Carter (Round 22) -Rusney Castillo (Round 22) -Javier Baez (Round 22)
Based on all of this I have two questions:
1) Are any of the four above worth swapping out for anyone I'm keeping? 2) If I stick to the above how do you think my team will look?

I'd probably take Carter or Baez over Gomes, unless this is a 2 catcher league. Otherwise, I would leave that spot flexible. I really like Carter.

Thanks for the reply! I was actually thinking about holding on to Carter, but my concern of course is AVG and OBP.
Will holding both Carter and Springer kill me in those two categories, or do you think players like Trout, Freeman, Machado, and Betts are going to be enough to even them out? If I decide to go with Carter, how much of a priority will I have to put on high AVG and OBP guys on draft day?

I like the Carter swap as well for Gomes, but I can see your concern about Carter's tanking of batting average. Gomes that late isn't a bad keep as well. However, if you do keep Carter for the added pop be aware that you still have rounds 2-6 and 8-14 to pick up some guys who could help balance out his and Springer's batting average issues. If you think there might be available talent in those rounds to do so, Carter makes some sense.
Your team looks quite good no matter who you keep in Gomes or Carter.

Hey all! Keepers are due tonight and I wanted to see if there are any last minute thoughts. It's essentially a question of who I should take as my 10th and final keeper (who I will get in Round 22). Here are my best options: - Rusney Castillo
- Chris Carter
- Yan Gomes
- Michael Cuddyer
I'm definitely keeping Trout, Freeman, Machado, Betts, Springer, Kluber, Arrieta, DeGrom, and Richards.
For me it's mostly down to Rusney Castillo and Chris Carter. The OF logjam in Boston has me a little concerned about Castillo, but Victorino is bound to get injured or traded fairly soon. As I said, with Carter the worry is that between him and Springer my AVG will tank. But mashinspuds has great points about my ability to target high avg/obp upside in those early-to-middle rounds.
Who would you keep, and why?

Ian Kinsler 100/17/92/15/.275 had to be one of the reasons you came so close in 2014 keep him and don't get so hung up on the late round deals.

I don't want to take a Round 5 guy in the 4th Round, especially when I already have Betts as my 2B. Plus, I'd rather go for value in late rounds and have picks 2-6 and 8-14 open.

sometimes it's not where you get 'em but who you get you need to toss ADP out of the window in a keeper.

I dig it. What are your projections for him this season? Does he regress, or put up similar numbers.

he's gotta regress but his obp should move more towards normal call it 85/15/85/15/.270/.330
