My unborn child will almost be in high school when this contract ends.

He was smart to get the opt out.

I'm sure nobody will regret this signing.

There are few players that this makes sense for. Stanton is one of them imo. You can make the argument that it will get ugly in the end but w/o the deal the Marlins get real ugly in the short term. This whole situation reminds me of MCab and the Marlins. None of the prospects worked out and MCab did so well in Detroit that he got a 2nd 8 year contract. Stanton can be MCab. This isn't like signing a 30+ yr old Fielder, Pujols or Votto to a 10 yr contract. The key though is that the Marlins need to find a way for a 75-100+M payroll (Loria is scum however) to be sustainable to put some pieces around him. They actually have a nice core of young good players but there are also many holes to be filled.

Assuming he stays healthy and the Marlins are not competitive, he will almost definitely opt out after 6 years. $30m per year is likely going to be fairly pedestrian for star players by that time.

Loria doesn't care. he'll likely sell before the big money kicks in. It won't be his problem.
