Hi all,
I'm in a roto league that doesn't have a minimum innings pitched cap. Is it crazy to punt SP?

So you want to punt 2 cats wins/k......good luck My thought would be draft closers and bats. Top shelf closers would net me- ERA,WHIP,Saves and then I would be getting the bats

Punting two categories in roto is suicide. You basically have to sweep the other 8 categories to win at that point.

5x5 is risky but definitely worth trying if you are confident you can draft a near perfect offense
6x6, you definitely can (and should) do it

As long as you want to be the guy that the league changes the rules for because everyone is pissed then go for it.

I wouldn't punt SP, particularly this year. After the top 10-15 closers, there's good potential for plenty of turnover. You would have to take two of Chapman, Kimbrel, and Holland to take the best ratios from relievers.
Personally, I'd much prefer taking a SP in Round 4/5 to anchor my staff and take some good upside fliers in the middle to late rounds than punt. There are bound to be rounds in which the value of SP outweighs the remaining hitters available.

I won't say anything about the strategy but unless you have quite a bit of money on the line, what fun is it to punt anything? To me, it's fun to try to build the best all around team possible....now if it turns out things go to hell and I have to punt during the season to make it work...sure...but I'm not going to draft a team based around punting 1 or 2 categories...that just doesn't seem like fun to me. This is also why when I setup my league I specify SP, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, RP, P, P as my pitching slots...which helps curb that approach, or the opposite approach, a bit.
Carry on.
