I would've been plenty happy had we replaced Ned with a sack of potatoes. This is icing on the cake!

Mama mia! They've gone from a chimpanzee with an abacus to the best around Mattingly's days are numbered?

One of the reasons that Freidman is so good because he doesn't (or can't) spend massive amounts of money on aging veterans. Will be interesting to see what he does with money. Theo Epstein is considered a great new age GM and even he spent a ton of money on Carl Crawford.

They need Friedman to figure out how to shed that much salary and remain a 90+ win team. There are a ton of really bad contracts (especially in the pen). It will be tough.

Yes, they almost certainly will move an OF'er this winter but they will have to take back something equally ugly or toss in a nice piece to make it happen.

Yes, they almost certainly will move an OF'er this winter but they will have to take back something equally ugly or toss in a nice piece to make it happen. There is actually a fair amount of money coming off of the books: Hanley Ramirez $16M Roberto Hernandez $1.67M Jamey Wright $1.8M Josh Beckett $15.75M Paul Maholm $1.5M Chris Perez $3.8M Matt Guerrier $1M (MIN) Andruw Jones $3.375M (JPN) As the roster stands right now: $168.6M Due for Arbitration: Dee Gordon Justin Turner Darwin Barney Drew Butera Kenley Jansen Options: Dan Haren $10M Player Option Brian Wilson $8.5M Player Option They are probably just over $200M after arbitration and player options (assuming Haren returns). Hopefully they can move Crawford and half a chunk to shed some more. I'm sure that some teams could view him as a useful player for $8-10M/yr. Ethier I would give away for pennies on the dollar. The only way to shed a bunch of payroll quickly would be to move Kemp now that he has some value again. I am not really in favor of this, but it's a good possibility. One thing is for certain. They will not be big spenders this winter.

I'm fairly certain both Haren and Wilson have exercised their options and will return for 2015.

Wilson has already said that he would pick up his option. I think that Haren could go either way. He could choose to test the market in hopes of landing a 2/yr deal to secure more money in the event that he lays a turd in 2015. I forgot above too that Billingsley comes off of the books too. We are on the hook for a $3M buyout. He made $12M last season.

Meh Haren is gonna be 35 - he's a SOCal guy - he may look for an extension from the losangelesfuckyougf's but I bet he opts in.

They have 170M already committed the following 2 seasons. Getting under 200M might be mission impossible for 2017.
