I don't really have a problem going back to the cafe if it gets the overhaul it needs. I'd probably even do my spreadsheet again if I knew it was actually going to get seen.

I'm ready to head back. They have actually setup something that works (from the front page standpoint). There is a lot of functionality and they are putting some real money into the website. They are even offering cash prizes for the basketball games that the baseball cafe used to have.
Basically they are doing what we have been asking for for the last 5 years. And we have to be honest with ourselves - this forum really isn't going to make it. We aren't recruiting any new people and most of us are too busy to really turn this into something. For example I have written about 15 personal blogs and 0 baseball blogs since I came back from my vacation one month ago. In addition to working too much.

I don't really have a problem going back to the cafe if it gets the overhaul it needs. I'd probably even do my spreadsheet again if I knew it was actually going to get seen. I brought this up to Sam, as well, as he asked if you or J3 had done your projections for 2015, and I said no, citing that you both said you were busy and not as into it, but also saying that if you guys felt you had a proper vehicle for it, that I thought you'd be more likely to find the inspiration, time, and energy. He even sent me a video he made, outlining a few of my ideas, asking for feedback, etc. One of them was to have a tab right next to 'Top Articles' on the front page called 'Top Threads' where the moderators could manually enter the Top 10 threads worth visiting, for example. A few other ways to integrate the forums, as well. Ideally, though, what would be cool would be to turn some of our A+ content (Closer Thread, Projections, Rankings, Mocks, Median Draft Position, etc.) into front page content, and then have it link to the forums for discussion. Sam seems open to all of these things, including adding a Hall of Fame Forum, or whatever you want to call it, to house and archive all of these threads from the past, for easy access. Again, he seems really open to suggestions and feedback, and I only have so much of it, so if you look at the layout and think, "It'd be really better if it were like this." either shoot him an e-mail, or let me know and I'll gladly do so since we've exchanged probably 10 e-mails at this point.

He said he anticipates that being a month. Unfortunate due to the timing, but I guess it's just an absolute disaster on the backend, and in order to not lose the logins, the content, etc. certain steps need to be taken first. I know literally nothing about the internet, so I'm taking it at face value.

Just to follow up, I've exchanged over 30 e-mails with Sam, who continues to seem like an A+ dude who is real enthusiastic to restoring the Cafe to a prominent place to hang. He listens to all my ideas, and provides detailed feedback, so he's definitely taking it all into consideration. He's already started to try re-shuffling the forums around, moving all the team forums to sub-forums on the bottom of the page, to get them out of the way before he's able to ultimately remove them, merge different forums, etc. Again, I've provided my thoughts, but remind me of others we had discussed, and I'm glad to bring them to him, where I can assure you they'll be heard and considered, and not just cast aside as we have grown used to.
I suggested merging Who to Start/Bench, College/Minors, Injuries/Updates, Beginners, Cheering/Venting, Commish Corner all into Baseball Leftovers, to let it be the catch all that everyone other than Madison thought it was for a decade. I think a lot of the Start/Bench stuff may filter into the Daily Baseball forums, but maybe not. Either way, Leftovers isn't exactly bustling with activity where those all can't be together, and actually be viewed as an active forum worth visiting. I also suggested re-merging Video Games, Literature, Memorobilia, and History all into General Talk (the baseball ones could even go into Leftovers).
There will also be 10 featured threads, in a 'Top Threads' tab, right next to the 'Top Articles' section on the front page, where we can assign the 10 threads most worth checking into, such as the Closer Thread, etc. And Sam already included, in the 'Cafe Hall of Fame' forum, old Closer Threads, MDP Threads, Projection threads from J3 and GF (I linked him to them all) -- if you have other threads that you remember that should be moved in there for easy access and remembrance, let me know, and I'll pass them along too. They can be silly like the Huff Ding Dong thread, the steroids threads, or anything else that sticks out.

If you feel like discussing anything else, post it here. Cafe Hall of Fame Only the best of the best Cafe threads make it into the Cafe Hall of Fame. Have a look at some of the most popular threads over the years and show some love. FAQ
