Now, I can't remember the last movie I saw in the theater. Unless it's the 'Lake Arrowhead Foreign Film Club' with the wife I think the last time I went to a theater was 5 or 6 yrs ago ( Don't Mess with the Zohan) while waiting for an out of town meeting to start. That would keep me from going back to a theater as well.

Sorry if we have just too much awesome for you to handle down there. I feel sorry for a country that thinks it's more acceptable to see 2 hours of people being brutally murdered than a bit of beaver. Regards, Eton Beaver If you're going to the movies to see beaver you're doing it wrong.

Stephen King's It. 3/10 If you put an s and an h at the front of this movie you have my exact opinion of it. Poor casting (apart from Pennywise who was great), way way way way too long. The "good guys" were so wishy-washy you (almost) cheered on the clown.

TRAILERS!!! Babadook: Holy crap that looks freaky. Watched this last night and omg did it blow my hopes and dreams out of the water. The acting is amazing, the story is thrilling, and the cinematography is entrancing. If you like cerebral horror movies without much of the jump scare/gore stuff that's the hallmark of most horror movies, then this will be up your alley. It really gets in your head for a while.

Anyone seen John Wick? I've heard good things and it got pretty good reviews. Thinking of checking it out this weekend.

Big Hero 6 was entertaining. Bit more of a kids movie.
The preceding short was very cute.

Big Hero 6 was entertaining. Bit more of a kids movie. Did you not pick up that vibe from the previews, or the fact that it's a Disney movie?? At any rate, with all the potential academy award winners and highly acclaimed flicks hitting the theaters now, I decided that Dumb & Dumber To would be the appropriate movie to go see (really, two of my friends were going to see it, and the to-be-wife was babysitting in Long Island for the weekend, so I tagged along). I went in with very low expectations, and they were surpassed. The original was one of my absolute favorite movies ever growing up, so there was a lot of nostalgia, despite the "this doesn't quite feel right" that was prevalent throughout. Yes, it's not as funny seeing two old men do the schtick they did two decades ago, but I still laughed plenty, and enjoyed myself. It's definitely worth catching when it hits HBO or some other cable provider where it won't be censored to death.

You act like they don't churn out kid-looking movies that aren't... Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs looks like a kids movie, but the humor comes way to fast and furious for any child to keep up with. The Emporer's New Groove is so sarcastic that any young kid wouldn't understand half of the best jokes. So I'm confirming for you that Big Hero 6 is indeed more appropriate for younger kids. You're welcome. Take your kids.

Dumb and Dumber is awful and I can't imagine the new one is anything but worse.
Also Birdman was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. So god damn boring.

Given your history of movie rating, Birdman should be the next movie on my queue to watch. Also, if you don't think the original Dumb & Dumber is funny you're either too young or have no sense of humor, or in ayebatter's case, possibly too old.

I'm 29 which I'm pretty sure is right in the sweet spot and that movie is awful. It might have been funny when I was a kid, but it aged terribly and if you remove any sentimental crap then it's objectively a terrible and unfunny movie. And I dare you to waste 2 hours of your life watching Birdman. Seriously just awful.

You're the only person I've heard hate it so far.
Also, Nicolas Cage watches Dumb & Dumber every week because it is a gd national treasure.

One of the stereotype "over the top" American comedians you guys seem to love like Chris Farley. Shit shit and more shit. Gremlins (1984) 7/10 Good times. Who exactly were the villains again? Hot 1980s brunette bird is hot. In the pipeline I have Gremlins 2, Yellowbeard and Silver Streak.

Interstellar was a visual spectacle that overwhelmed my senses and left me in awe. But the plot was basically stupid as hell and left me telling myself not to think too hard because it was a fun ride.

Watched miniseries The Missing on Starz. Good story and a couple good acting jobs. Considering the story is about a missing child, it was a tough watch because you knew by the end nobody would be happy. Still, if you're in the right mood it's a quality watch. My wife bugging me to watch The Killing (Netflix now?) and Broadchurch (also Netflix)
Always loved Home Alone and like to watch it about once every five years. Was scared to watch the sequel until now and I regret it. Unless you have nostalgia from watching it as a kid, it's a terrible movie. First movie in a long time that I could not finish. What's scary is that there are apparently other sequels...
I also feared that Dumb & Dumber wouldn't stand the test of time, but caught about 30 mins of it a couple of months ago and it was still hilarious. Love it. Only movie I've been to in the theater where viewers were howling and almost falling out of their seats. My friend and I laughed so hard we cried and our faces ached. Good times.
I actually like the first half of It. Killer clown terrorizing children FTW. Once the kids are adults it turns to complete garbage. Watch the first half, tho.

My wife loved the killing and enjoyed broadchurch. They were entertaining but I mostly enjoyed that I could play video games while she watched.

Predestination
Good stuff. The trailer is a lie. There's not much action. The compelling character(s), unique story, and quality acting carry it more then enough for the 90 minutes it takes up. I was a little ticked with the "explain everything for the stupid people" ending.
Not the greatest movie, but I doubt you'd feel like you wasted your time after watching.

If you have a child under the age to 10. Go bring them to Paddington.
If you don't, bring a niece or nephew to it.
Very fun.

The Great Escape (1963) 9/10
Tremendous, a proper story. It's quite long (2h 45) so it might be a two-sitting watch, but well worth it. Loved how it's not a cookie cutter story arc, more of a "this is what happened". It does feature the 2nd worst Australian imitation I've ever seen (James Coburn), but at least it was subtle and he basically said "bloody hell" a lot which is correct. (The worst is Leonard Nimoy and it's on youtube, look it up)
