First post!
I second the idea (from the FBC Reboot thread) of bringing over the Closers Thread. Saves are so crazy, it's fun to speculate. And sometimes hometown input can be valuable. That thread and Classifieds were the two things that kept bringing me back even when things went to shit. Then when I got there I always had to check in on Cheering & Venting.

Havoc is a member here but the last contact I had he wasn't sure if he was going to do a Closers Thread this year maybe you should prod him along.

Prod away! If he won't do it, I'm sure that someone will be willing to put something together.

Ohh, I see what you're saying. You're talking about that guide in the first post of the thread. I did refer to that on occasion. Mostly I liked to go to that night's posts to hear the rumors, opinions, bitch sessions, and insults.

Setup a writers sub forum here. We will have a blog at wordpress in a day or two. It will be a free blog. I don't think it will look like my other blogs since those themes were picked to show off photos. theworldisnotthatbig.com/ I will look around the themes for something that catches the eye. The first blog series (5-10 teams in all) will be "What are the (Athletics) thinking" I will writeup a summary of their offseason moves and then 5 'experts' (a loose description of expert but must include Aussie Dodger for the A's) will offer a 2-3 paragraph take on the direction of the A's. The second team in this series will be the Padres. We won't do every team but some of the more active ones. Other blogs can include rankings, a 30 in 30 series, sleepers, prospects, strategy, general baseball thoughts, other popular weekly topics (start em/sit em or streaming), a regular closer update and anything else that we like to discuss in leftovers. I think we should focus on baseball instead of just fantasy baseball. But please no HOF blogs. Or the Mets. I think we should revisit the question in regards to naming of the blog/forum. I don't think we can use fantasy baseball cafe legally (nor should we) and cafe reboot doesn't make sense to anyone other than old cafe'rs. Perhaps Fantasy Rebooted.

Writers sub-forum made.
I'm liking the Fantasy Rebooted name but wondering if we should be thinking about moving to a more permanent site if we want to start including blogs/articles? I really have no idea how to go about it though. Would we just pick a site that hose phpbb or are there better options?

The blog would be independent of the forum but at the end of each blog we would include a link to the forum discussion on that article. We would also copy and paste the blog (or part of the blog) and make a new forum topic here. The forum that I linked to (twinsdaily.com) integrates the blog and forum much better but comments on the blog still don't show up on the forum. They have comments occurring independently in both areas and they copy the blog onto the forum where most of the discussion occurs. The other problem is that it is not cheap. It starts at 20/month but gets expensive as more users join. If this became at all popular this could become a 100+/mo venture with no revenue streams. Of course that might happen on any forum that we are part of. Yes, we could start putting up ads but I have not heard great things about making money through google adsense.
The one problem that I have found with Fantasy Rebooted is that both words are rather ambiguous and doing a google search for Fantasy Rebooted will likely never lead a person here. For example the top google hits are about final fantasy, fantasy characters and Dr Who.

when i did the H2HWS/Rotodatabase site, i used some free software that integrated both into one. it was pretty seemless. its the same software that politco uses, where as articles and forums look exactly alike. Only problem with that though is i had to pay to host, and obviously we are trying to avoid that here. im guessing the free phpbb/wordpress is probably the only free way to go. Also, if i remember correctly, the articles at the old cafe werent that popular. im talking page views by actual people, not bots, in the 10's ...i could be wrong. probably am.
whats so horrible about posting an article in the phpbb system, as a forum post?

that's part of the problem with the old cafe. The articles/blog part was awful. It was impossible to navigate to other good articles. It's a guarantee that we won't get any weblinks.
Only posting articles as a forum post leads to nobody writing articles and just starting forum posts. Effort required and quality both go down a lot.
I also thought about joining sbnation but each blog completely lacks an individual identity since they all look exactly the same.

I can register new domain and install professional forum software with spam filters, blogs etc.
We would probably need 10-20 active users who will post a lot at the beginning to get this thing going.
It seems like original cafe won't be functional before the season starts. It was my favorite fantasy baseball forum.
Let me know if there is an interest in doing this.

Whether or not the original cafe is functional before the season starts doesn't matter to me. The new direction that the football cafe is taking is an abomination. The old cafe is almost dead to me. It's either not going to be updated or it's going to be updated into an abomination.
I like the idea of moving to a permanent site with full functionality. The problem is that when I looked it was going to cost 20-30/month and the cost would increase if it got a lot of traffic. If somebody (or a group) wants to pay for it and commit to it for a year then that is great but I can't afford anything. Luckily my plane ticket to Borneo is already paid for but I'm not even sure how I will pay my rent, daily travel expenses or my business expenses for the next month.

I have no problem paying for the hosting or technology. The main question if we can find a group of 10-20 folks who will actively post, moderate and suggest improvements. I can setup a very solid forum in a day. But if nobody posts there, any effort won't make any sense.
