Curious about a few Starting Pitchers who have emerged in 2014 on various levels, over various time frames, and what people think about them, unbearably early on, and their 2015 projections. These guys project to be some of the potential mid-round grabs that are very popular in drafts, and I'm wondering who we'll be bragging about taking there, and who we'll be cursing about taking there...
- Matt Shoemaker
- Carlos Carrasco
- Jake Arrieta
- Jacob deGrom
- Alex Wood
- Dallas Keuchel
- Mike Fiers
- James Paxton
Feel free to add names to discuss as well.
Of the names above, I really like Arrieta. Whatever they're doing in Chicago seems to be working. They turned Samardzija into a stud, Hammel, and now Arrieta. His peripherals indicate that he's not doing it by luck, he has great K and BB Rates.
Is Shoemaker projected to be a rotation mainstay for the Angels in 2015? I'd have to think so, right? Managers love when guys go 16 - 4. I love the guy cause he walks no one. Solid K Rate. I've also had him almost all season this year, and have grown to love the guy. He may even crack my keeper list in my main league.
Carrasco is another guy I've owned for his fun ride, but I really have zero idea about. I remember being hyped when he was initially called up years ago, and then him just sort of fizzling out... until like a month ago, when he dominated the Yankees in his first (I think, maybe it was his 2nd...) start of the season. His numbers are a bit skewed because of all the bullpen work, but since joining the rotation, the guy has been dominant, giving up only 9 ER in 61.1 IP (1.32 ERA), and struck out 68 batters, to just 8 walks. Could he be a front line starter in 2015? Maybe a potential Fantasy #2? #3? I'm really not sure what to think of him...
