Frieri listed as the current Rays closer is confusing to me. He was AWFUL last year and I don't see him miraculously finding his control. I rank the Rays bullpen Boxberger > Jepsen > Balfour > Frieri I don't know about that order, necessarily, but I do think that Boxberger is the definite guy getting Saves out of the gate, at least until McGee is good to go. Stranger things have heppened, though, I guess...

What's the latest on the Dodgers situation? Some kind of committee my guess is Hatcher gets the bulk.

I project its Peralta & Howell until League/Jansen return. Newcomers Sergio Santos and Dustin McGowan have the stuff to close as well.

Jim Johnson or Jason Grilli in Atlanta with Kimbrel moving to SD? I lean Johnson, but hard to say.

Most are going with grilli. I got outbid in my Faab (bid 21 but someone went 30) but got Johnson for a couple bucks as a back up.

Jim Johnson or Jason Grilli in Atlanta with Kimbrel moving to SD? I lean Johnson, but hard to say. Grilli was recently announced as the closer with Johnson as the likely next in line though I wouldn't be surprised if one of both are traded at some point this season. It is to Atlanta's advantage to build up each of their values and deal them, much like the Cubs and Astros did with Jose Veras. Johnson, due to age, might have more trade value but Grilli will have to fail for that to happen. Guys like Juan Jaime, Daniel Carela, Mauricio Cabrera or even the recently suspended Arodys Vizcaino might be eventual options though the best internal candidate is likely Michael Foltynewicz, who is currently in AAA but possesses the best pure arm in the organization. I'll probably do a write up on this.

Wow this thread sure has far less activity than in year's past on the old site. Why did this get moved anyways? I'm not currently panicking over lack of saves right now but so far I'm not fairing well with Cishek and I am a Dellin Betances owner.
So far Cishek hasn't been good, any reason to worry?
I really think Betances in the Yankees closer of the future and is only a matter of time before he gets the full time job back. I can't believe Andrew Miller will keep up his improbable unprecedented greatness especially after being absolutely nothing with all his previous teams.
Is Sean Doolittle really going to be alright? I thought he had a torn rotator cuff? I'm banking on Clippard to keep the job this season.
How about Jake McGee? Will he automatically get the closer gig back when he comes off the DL?
What current closers have the greatest chance of losing their jobs soon?

I'm not sure if you really understand just how good Andrew Miller has been for the two previous seasons. 14 K/9 and a low 2's ERA.

What happened to this place? This thread used to be THE place for news. Yes, Ottavino is the guy to own, as I indicated a few days ago on the front page. I still try and keep this front page open but the problems with the cafe, robot posts, and forum format have kinda killed the original cafe and the rebooted version.

I still think Melancon has some rope left, but if his velocity remains down...... I'd rank the options behind him as 1a Watson 1b Caminero. As a Pirates homer, I can see Watson getting the first crack but as a valuable lefty, I think he remains in the setup role with Caminero eventually taking over the 9th inning.

Yes, this makes sense though Liz may be factor if he can finally reign in his stuff.

Cishek looking less than stellar this season, third blown save in six chances tonight. Any reason to think he's gonna lose the gig soon? Who's the next guy to own?

Yes, Ramos would likely be the best short-term investment and I could see Dunn getting a few chances based on matchups but there really isn't much to like in the Marlins pen in terms of guys with closer stuff. Ramos is small guy, which typically doesn't bode well for closers, though I think Bryan Morris might be be the best long-term option if the Marlins don't go out to sign Soriano. Of course, Cishek could just as easily reclaim the job. So, hold on to Cishek and pick up Ramos for the short-term but Morris might be the best pickup. Also, adding Soriano might not be the dumbest move either, though I don't know if he'd close right away even if he did sign. Darkhorse here might finally be Carter Capps as well.
